What is Merino?

Merino wool comes from the fleece of a specific breed of sheep known broadly as merino. The fleece is removed by shearing - like giving a sheep a haircut. Our merino wool is a superfine 18.5 micron wool that is ZQ certified - meaning it has been ethically sourced and can be traced back to the farms of origin.
Merino fabric is an incredibly versatile and functional fabric. The high country sheep that our wool comes from are able to withstand extreme weather changes. Hot or cold, this fabric is able to retain heat in cooler weather or wick moisture away to allow breathing in warmer climates. This is perfect for babies who cannot regulate their own body temperatures. Not only breathable but super soft, the fineness of this fabric is incredibly obvious to the touch, feeling more like silk than wool. It will not rub or cause abrasion to a baby’s gentle skin.
