Our signature style baby Booties are designed with function and quality in mind. Due to newborn feet being uniquely shaped and constantly kicking, unlike the more developed, coherent feet of walking children, they are delicate and hard to dress. Our Merino Booties feature a self-fabric tie, to adjust the size and ensure they stay on tiny little ankles while not digging in and causing any discomfort. Being made from a knit fabric means there is adequate stretch to allow the Booties to be put on wriggly feet and taken off seamlessly. Our booties are also made using premium grade Merino Wool, sourced right here in New Zealand from ethical farms who believe in a better quality of life for their animals, themselves and the land.
Our Merino Wool Booties come in a range of colour options - a classic newborn ivory, a versatile navy blue and a beautiful, soft blush pink. Perfect to keep little feet warm, for both baby girls and baby boys.
Merino is a term used to describe various breeds of sheep, there is no one breed but rather a group of breeds that are known as Merino Sheep. Their wool is prized globally for its fineness, soft handle and ability to be machine washed. Many years of technological advancement and innovation has gone into manipulating the raw wool fibres into yarn, which is then knitted into the fabric we then cut to make our booties and other woollen products. Our wool fabrics at Wilderling can be traced back to farm of origin, under the ZQ Certification body. Such certification "stands for: better quality of life for the animals, for our planet, our people and you" (taken from the ZQ Merino Website, link here). By buying a product from our merino collection you can be guaranteed transparency throughout the supply chain of this premium fabric. Designed, cut and made right here in New Zealand, from local components gives us the ability to be involved in the whole process. Warm: these Booties are made from 100% superfine Merino Wool. Merino is a luxurious fibre that acts the same as it does when it is a fleece still on the sheep, by providing a warm layer between the skin and environment.
Functional: being parents ourselves, we have designed these Booties with caregivers in mind. Nothing is more frustrating than something that looks beautiful, photographs well but is not practical and therefore cannot be used. We are all about creating purposeful products and as such have put a lot of thought and testing into how these Booties will stay on wriggly feet. Our solution is two-fold. The first is the stretch in the merino knit fabric which allows for them to be easily pulled on and off. The second is the self-fabric tie, which also has give in it to be able to move while tied around a babies ankle. This means that when you tie it around a babies ankle, it will stay in place but also stretch and move as a baby does. It will not dig in and cause issues with circulation.
Easy-care: Merino fabric is precious and delicate, however it is also able to withstand gentle machine washing. Ideally it is best to spot-wash garments to ensure longevity, but in the case where they cannot be washed we recommend putting them in a delicates bag and popping them in the washing machine on a gentle wool wash.
Multi-purpose: our Booties can be worn with socks or without to protect little toes from the cold elements. They have been crafted with a double layer of our merino jersey fabric, so can be used instead of a sock for a more finished look with any outfit. As babies feet are uniquely shaped, hard soled shoes are not recommended. Out Booties are soft, have adequate stretch to allow free movement and will keep little feet warm all year round.
Generous Sizing: our Booties come in three sizes: 0-6 months, 6-12 months and 12-18 months. Designed to last a growing foot so you can get as much wear out of them as possible.
Self-Fabric Tie: our ties are secured at the back of the Bootie to ensure they do not get misplaced. Once tied in a bow, they sit securely against the ankle with enough stretch to move as a baby does. This means they will not restrict motion and dig in to a delicate ankle.
New Zealand Merino: we use a premium grade of Merino Wool sourced ethically on our back door step. As there are a limited supply of Merino Sheep in New Zealand, their wool is prized globally for its fineness and technological advancement in manufacturing. Couple this with our ZQ Certified Standard of ethics and you have a truly sustainable fabric that can be traced back to its farm of origin.
Made in New Zealand: from handmade beginnings, Victoria the founder of Wilderling has always loved being creative. Before the expansion of Wilderling, every piece was made in her home studio, therefore it was important to her to know the people behind the machines creating the pieces she had tirelessly designed and made herself. Experiencing first hand the time that goes into sewing and constructing garments Victoria also wanted to find a manufacturing process that paid its craftspeople a fair wage. The solution was looking locally, and the result is a made in New Zealand product that supports a range of industries.
Our Booties are the perfect addition to any babies collection of clothing that will be used on high rotation. Whether it is for a gift for a new born baby or for your own child, all babies need to wear something on their little feet all year round, to protect their extremities from the elements. Choose from a range of beautiful colours that can be seamlessly paired with any outfit. A nod to the traditional hand knitted bootie, our booties honour that style, while updating it with the most modern of fabrics - ethically sourced NZ Merino Wool, made locally in New Zealand.
